BP’s Bizarre Photo Alterations

By Nick Zantop and published on ItsJustLight

Having worked as a photographer for several years, I have spent many sleepless nights with Photoshop open, “perfecting” images for fashion editorials and advertisements. A slightly higher shoulder, maybe a different color for the background, perhaps hair that is a bit longer. By nature, photographs lie. They capture only an instant, a sliver of time. It is up to the photographer to create a coherent story through these little lies, creating a larger truth when viewed together. Photoshop and other image editing software enables the photographer (or anyone) to turn a white lie into a dark thunderstorm of a lie, or more innocuously, to simply make parts of an image more visible.

After traveling over one thousand miles from Florida’s Panhandle to Grand Isle, Louisiana and back to document the devastation wrought by the deadly sea of crude oil, I feel confident when I say that BP is not handling the disaster as well as their multi-million dollar TV commercials and newspaper ads would like us to believe. I encountered a cleanup effort that seemed to focus its greatest attention on easily accessible beaches frequented by tourists, leaving more secluded areas awash with death and oil.

Clean Water by Dean Kamen

It is around a year ago when I read about water purification device, named Slingshot. It has been developed by Dean Kamen and his team with underdeveloped countries in mind.
The device looks simple, two pipes sticking out, one you put into anything that looks wet and from the other one fresh and clean water comes out.

As Dean is saying “We didn’t invent vapour compression. We didn’t invent the distillation process. We didn’t invent any fundamental understanding of the Second Law of Thermodynamics. But we did make a lot of little inventions to make a small scale, highly reliable device that frees us from having to measure what’s wrong with the input water. There’s a lot of technology in there that we’re quite proud of.

The cost at the time mentioned was £1000 and it could make enough water to split cost between few hundred people.

I’m curios at what stage this project is now. I couldn’t find any latest information than from 2009.  Below is a link to a video where Kamen presents the Slingshot

Clean Water Solution

I think worthwhile is also to take a look at DeKa site run by Dean Kamen. Very inventive personality.

Emerging Solar Panel Industry Trends

By Kriss Bergethon

Having been in the renewable energy and solar power industries for the last 10 years, I often get asked about what the future holds. Whether you are interested for investment purposes or general curiosity, I would say in the general the future is extremely bright for clean energy. Here are some things that we see coming in the next 5 to 10 years that will shape the markets for the industry, and specifically solar power.

Feed-in-Tariffs Will Proliferate

The most widely used model for encouraging solar power installations now is giving rebates for installed watts. The problem with this model is that it doesn’t actually give incentives for producing more clean energy, which after all is the point. Installed watts don’t always translate to produced watts due to installation issues and equipment efficiencies.

This is where feed-in tariffs come in. This actually rewards the solar power producer by paying them a rate for the electricity they feed back in to the grid at 3-4x the actual retail rate. So some homes might be paying $0.11/kw-hr for power but selling power back to the grid for $0.45/kw-hr that is produced by their solar panels. This can produce a profit and much faster return on investment for the system.

How to BE Honest, Make Money and Still Protect Environment while Creating Future

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j21nZ3ewJno&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1]

I couldn’t stop myself from posting this video. I have two reasons for this:

  • First – Richard Branson is my first and the only one in my entire life idol, the person I really admire
  • Second – He talks about ecological solution to flying into space and I believe Him.

Now, how many of us are fans or at least saw the Star Trek? I guess that thousands, hundreds of thousands. Can you see Sci-Fi vision turning into reality? Can you see a desire, passion and dreams coming true? I do.

What conclusion can one draw out of this? Do what you like to do or do what you think you have to do but NEVER EVER stop DREAMING!!! Never give-up your desires and do not let others to make you drop them.
There are millions of people, including your closest family and friends, who may and will pull you down because they cannot see things you have in your mind and they do not believe that what your dream of CAN become reality!

What is even more important – feel good, enjoy what you do and listen to those who question them selves looking for and expecting answers, listening and observing very carefully, knowing that for every problem there is a solution. A solution, that will present it self when the time is right and in its best form.
You don’t know what you don’t know, so THINK … the power is in you.

Aviation and Health Care Lag in Recycling Space

From Greentechnolog.com

The reasons to recycle are many and should be helpful to any business … lower  cost with less trash to dispose and pay for and “bragging rights” to promote are just two … Yet two very large “inductries” have not jumped on the recycling bandwagon …

” … a The New York Times article, Leaving the Trash Behind, explored the aviation industry’s massive contribution to global waste … millions of plastic bottles discarded at security checkpoints, but separate recycling containers in terminals or on board planes are not common. …no industry standard for recycling …”

Green Grid draws easy profits

By Dana Blankenhorn from Smartplanet.com

The Green Grid is hosting its third annual technical forum this week, showing how saving energy on IT can be easy money.

The profits from saving energy are at the top of the agenda, with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. delivering a keynote this morning titled Green Gold Rush.

Here in Atlanta, for instance, a server farm could run on air for about a month out of the year, and save by using recycled water four months a year. Cooling savings are highest in the Southwest, but water savings are lower there, too…

What is the Impact of Wealth on the Environment?

What I’m going to say may have nothing to do with ecology or environment but … it helps with wealthy living.

Wealthy living may have immense impact on the environment; both positive or negative. Obviously, it will depend on what one will do with its wealth but I choose thinking positively. 🙂

OK, the wealthy living can start with FREE gift or with some money spent on product or for education. Here is a product which will give you education, it is FREE and by learning you will invest in yourself. What could be better?

Some, will be skeptical because nothing is for FREE and this true, some other will say it must rubbish because is or FREE. Will the last pay is it wasn’t? Maybe but there is no guarantee. I would agree with the first because the price one will pay is time and effort to do something others will not to be bothered.

At least, if you get something that is FREE and you do not like it you can easily get rid of it without pain, it was FREE anyway or  find yourself in the beneficiary position and ahead of others just by gaining useful knowledge. The call is yours.

So, HERE AGAIN is the Educational and FREE product for You to explore and gain.

Remember: Be First, The Second is The First Looser. 🙂

Eco-Luxury

Can it be? Eco design/product connected with the luxury?

It seems it can, especially when taking – yachts 🙂 Bellow is an excerpt from an article in this subject

Eco-Friendly Luxury Yacht: OrganiK

Rarely do the words organic and luxury come together as elegantly as they do with the new OrganiK yacht design from Sylvain Viau which was created with the objective of providing a high standard of comfort with eco-friendly undertones. …
